7. Learn the 10-second rule and 30-day rule!
These are my two cornerstone rules for when I’m shopping; if I place it in the cart, I take 10 seconds to think about why I’m buying the item and if it’s actually something I need, and if there’s something I see on TV or hear in an ad and I really want it, I wait 30 days to see if I still really want that item. 30 days may be a long time to wait, but if you still want the item after a month of thinking and waiting, chances are it’ll be well worth the purchase. Both these rules can help drastically cut down on stress-spending, whimsical wants, and everything of the kind.
