Each region of South India has its own specialty to offer, making it a diverse and rich culinary experience. The report reveals that over 90% of breakfast orders were vegetarian, with popular choices including masala dosa, idli, Pongal, and vada. These dishes are not only popular for breakfast but are also enjoyed for lunch and dinner.

Interestingly, six out of the top 10 ordered dishes are vegetarian, indicating a growing trend towards plant-based eating. Bangalore has emerged as the top city for vegetarian food, with dishes like paneer biryani, masala dosa, and paneer butter masala being the hot favorites. Hyderabad and Mumbai also have their own popular choices, with idli and masala dosa being the top picks in Hyderabad, and vegetarian dishes like Margherita pizza, pav bhaji, and khichdi ruling the charts in Mumbai.

The report also highlights a significant rise in the demand for guilt-free and vegan food options, with a 146% increase in orders last year. This trend towards healthy eating habits is reflected in the snacking choices of consumers, with salads and other healthy options gaining popularity. Online food delivery apps have played a crucial role in catering to these changing preferences, making it convenient for people to access healthy and delicious food options.

In a bid to recognize and honor popular vegetarian dishes across the country, an IPO-bound company has announced the ‘Green Dot Awards’. This initiative will cover more than 80 cities and 9000+ brands, celebrating the best vegetarian dishes in categories like pizza, desserts, paneer dishes, and dal makhani. Similarly, Zomato has launched its own award ceremony called the ‘Restaurant Awards’, where customers can vote for their favorite restaurants.

Overall, the latest report indicates a growing trend towards sustainable and healthy eating habits, with people embracing vegetarian and vegan options for a better lifestyle and overall well-being. South Indian cuisine, with its flavorful dishes and diverse offerings, continues to be a top choice for food lovers, reflecting a shift towards healthier and more conscious eating habits.
