The Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual steak fry at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport, where they not only celebrated the local business community but also honored outstanding teachers and students. The event was a special occasion to recognize the hard work and dedication of educators and students in the Ohio Valley.

The chamber took the opportunity to highlight three exceptional teachers who were named Teachers of the Year. Mia Huck from Richie Elementary, Abby Reeves from Triadelphia Middle School, and Betsy Knorr from Wheeling Central Catholic High School were the deserving recipients of this prestigious award. These educators were chosen for their outstanding contributions to their schools and their commitment to shaping the minds of the next generation.

Brooke Anderson, the chamber’s membership and marketing coordinator, emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating the educators in the community. She expressed gratitude for the educators’ years of dedication and hard work in shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. The chamber’s gesture of honoring these teachers was a way to show how valued and important they are in the community.

The teachers themselves were humbled and grateful for the recognition they received. Mia Huck expressed her amazement at being acknowledged for her work in the education system. Abby Reeves appreciated the support from the community and the opportunity to be highlighted for her contributions. Betsy Knorr was touched by the outpouring of congratulations and well wishes she received from former students and parents, reaffirming her passion for teaching.

In addition to honoring teachers, the chamber also announced two scholarship winners at the event. Isaac Schmitt, a graduate of Wheeling Central, and Jared Marsh, a graduate of Wheeling Park High School, were awarded $1,000 scholarships each. Schmitt, who will be attending West Virginia University to study biology/pre-med, expressed his gratitude for the support and opportunity provided by the Chamber of Commerce and Williams Lea. Unfortunately, Marsh was unable to attend the event as he was participating in the American Legion Baseball regional championships with Wheeling Post 1.

The event was attended by around 160 people, showcasing the strength and unity of the local business community. Anderson highlighted the importance of bringing businesses together in such a special setting to make connections and build relationships. The annual steak fry was not only a celebration of the business community but also a platform to honor and recognize the exceptional educators and students who are making a difference in the Ohio Valley.
