Nina Dobrev, known for her role in “The Vampire Diaries,” recently opened up about the emotional struggles she faced following a bike accident that left her with physical injuries. The actress detailed how the lengthy recovery process for her ACL and meniscus tears, along with a broken knee, took a toll on her mental health. Dobrev shared her experience with E! News during the Shiseido Blue Project Beach Clean-Up at the 2024 US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Calif., revealing that the combination of physical pain, pain medication, and seeing others enjoying their summer activities on social media while she was confined to bed led her to a state of depression.
The 35-year-old actress expressed how challenging it was to be unable to walk and participate in activities she enjoyed, especially considering her active lifestyle with boyfriend Shaun White. The Olympic snowboarding champion has been a source of support for Dobrev throughout her recovery, accompanying her on trips and providing emotional support.
Dobrev recounted the accident, explaining that she lost control of the electric dirt bike during her first ride, resulting in a serious knee injury. Following surgery, she has decided to steer clear of risky activities and focus on her healing process. Despite feeling a sense of fear and having to relearn how to walk, Dobrev remains optimistic about her recovery.
The actress has been staying active by walking with the help of a knee brace and recently participated in a beach clean-up event in partnership with Shiseido, World Surf League, and WILDCOAST to promote ocean-friendly products. Dobrev emphasized the importance of having a strong support system, crediting her friends for helping her through the challenging times and lifting her spirits.
Regarding her relationship with Shaun White, Dobrev shared that things are going well and that they are happy together. As she continues her recovery journey, Dobrev remains grateful for the love and support she has received from her loved ones and looks forward to regaining her strength and mobility.
