As we head into the weekend, it looks like we are in for a wet and stormy few days ahead. The forecast is calling for thundershowers to continue into next week, with temperatures expected to be a bit cooler than usual. Rain is expected to make a return next weekend as well, so it’s important to stay prepared for changing weather conditions.
Starting with Saturday night, the weather will be sticky with some showers continuing overnight. Despite the showers, temperatures will remain seasonable with lows ranging from 74-78 degrees. Winds will be coming from the southwest at 5-10mph.
Moving into Sunday, the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with continued thunderstorms. It will be warm and humid with highs reaching 86-90 degrees. Winds will shift to the south at 5-10mph. Sunday night will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms with mostly cloudy conditions. Lows will be in the range of 74-78 degrees with winds coming from the south-southwest at 5-15mph.
On Monday, scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue with temperatures decreasing slightly. Highs will be in the range of 84-88 degrees with winds coming from the northeast at 5-10mph. In terms of tropical weather, Debby has become post-tropical and has moved well into the northeast, away from the US and into eastern Canada. The Hurricane Center is no longer issuing advisories for this system.
There is a tropical wave about a thousand miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands that is moving west-northwest across the central Tropical Atlantic. This wave is expected to head towards the north Lesser Antilles and has a 40 percent chance of development over the next couple of days. As it reaches the Greater Antilles, the chances for a depression forming early to mid next week increase to 80 percent. This system needs to be monitored for potential impact on the southeastern US.
In terms of marine conditions, seas will be 2-4 feet with water temperatures in the low 80s at the Crystal Coast and Outer Banks. Rivers and Sounds will have a moderate chop on Saturday with winds from the southwest at 10-15 knots. Low tide is at 6:18am and high tide is at 12:42pm.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Sunday may see more showers and thunderstorms as a front remains above the area. Highs will stay in the mid-eighties both inland and along the beaches. On Monday, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected with a largely cloudy sky as a low off the coast interacts with a front in the region.
The rest of the week will see mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures as a high settles over the region. By Friday, a warm front to the south may bring some showers or thundershowers into the region. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s throughout the week, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.
