The Annual Colorado State Fair Parade is a highly anticipated event in Pueblo, Colorado, and this year’s parade promises to be a colorful and exciting celebration of the state. The parade, themed “Colorful Colorado,” is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 24. Leading the parade as Grand Marshal is Patty Erjavec, a beloved figure in the community and former president of Pueblo Community College. Joining her as Parade Marshal is Ed Smith, the former superintendent of Pueblo County School District 70.

Patty Erjavec, a Pueblo native, has deep roots in the community and has dedicated 14 years of service to Pueblo Community College. As the school’s first female president, she has been a trailblazer in education and a champion for students. Ed Smith, a Denver native, served as superintendent of D70 for 18 years before retiring. Both Erjavec and Smith bring a wealth of experience and a passion for education to their roles as parade marshals.

The Colorado State Fair Parade, coordinated by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, is one of the oldest parades in the state. The parade route will wind along Historic Union Avenue, showcasing the rich history and vibrant culture of Pueblo. Spectators can expect to see colorful floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, and community organizations coming together to celebrate the spirit of Colorado.

In addition to the State Fair Parade, there are other exciting events happening in the Pueblo community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for August 15 at GOAL High School in Pueblo West. GOAL High School offers online education with drop-in centers where students can receive support from staff on academic, social-emotional, and technology needs. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will highlight the school’s commitment to providing a supportive learning environment for students.

Chavez Huerta Preparatory Academy is also unveiling a new school addition on August 16. The addition, funded by the BEST Grant, features career and technical education spaces and connects the Ersilia Cruz Middle School with the Dolores Huerta Preparatory High campuses. This expansion will provide students with enhanced learning opportunities and a seamless transition between middle and high school.

Furthermore, the Pueblo Rescue Mission is among the recipients of grants from the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. The mission will receive $20,000 to support its efforts in serving the homeless population in Pueblo County. This grant, along with others awarded to nonprofits in Colorado, will make a significant impact on the community by providing essential services and support to those in need.

Overall, the Pueblo community is buzzing with excitement as it prepares for the State Fair Parade and other upcoming events. With dedicated leaders like Patty Erjavec and Ed Smith at the helm, along with the support of local organizations and grants, Pueblo is poised to continue thriving and serving its residents.
