The Jamestown Public Schools District is gearing up for the upcoming school year, and as part of their preparations, the Board of Education received an update on various construction projects within the district. Carl Pillittieri, the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Transportation for JPS, provided the board members with details on the progress of projects at three different school buildings: The Raymond J. Fashano Tech Academy, Milton J. Fletcher Elementary School, and Jamestown High School.

Pillittieri explained that all projects are being completed in multiple phases to ensure a smooth and efficient process. This approach allows for a balance of work and a seamless transition between different disciplines such as plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. By dividing the projects into phases, the construction teams can maximize their time on the job and utilize critical swing spaces as the work progresses throughout the buildings.

The Raymond J. Fashano Tech Academy is undergoing several upgrades including the replacement of windows, installation of stairway railings, new flooring, fire alarm replacement, addition of a backup generator, HVAC system updates, and new furniture installation. Pillittieri assured the board that all spaces in the tech academy will be ready for the start of the school year.

At Milton J. Fletcher Elementary School, construction crews are busy replacing 75% of the school’s roof, steam boilers, unit ventilators, floors in various areas, rooftop units, HVAC chiller, and adding a backup generator. Additionally, work is being done on 20 classrooms in the old wing to improve heating and air conditioning systems, structural elements, and ceilings. Pillittieri confirmed that all areas of the school will be available for the start of the school year.

Jamestown High School is also undergoing significant renovations, including the replacement of 50% of the roof, renovations on the second floor, Information Services Department, receiving and custodial areas, cafeteria floor abatement, and repairs to the auditorium and pool areas. The second-floor renovation involves demolishing and reconstructing classrooms, bathrooms, faculty rooms, installing new HVAC equipment, floors, ceilings, and lockers. Pillittieri outlined a timeline for completion of various sections of the high school, ensuring that classrooms and facilities will be ready for students and staff.

In addition to the individual school projects, there is a districtwide Informational Technology project underway. This project involves the recabling of the district and is expected to be completed by the end of September. The district also plans to install interactive whiteboards and upgrade sound devices in each classroom throughout the district.

Overall, the construction projects within the Jamestown Public Schools District are progressing well, with a focus on completing necessary upgrades and improvements before the start of the new school year. The phased approach to construction allows for efficient work and ensures that all areas of the schools will be ready for students and staff. The district’s commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment is evident in these ongoing construction efforts.
