Art lovers in Helena have a lot to look forward to this August, with a variety of exciting events and shows happening around town. One such event is the “Landscapes On My Mind” art show at Queen City Framing & Art Supplies, featuring 13 new pieces by local artist Carroll Jenkins. Jenkins, a self-taught painter of abstracts and landscapes, has been painting for decades as a form of meditation and self-expression. His works, created in acrylics, oils, and cattle markers, reflect his experiences and memories from his travels and life experiences.

The art show at Queen City is a great opportunity for art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in Jenkins’ unique style and vision. Visitors can expect to see a diverse range of landscapes, each with its own story and emotion. From serene mountain vistas to vibrant cityscapes, Jenkins’ paintings capture the beauty and essence of the places he has visited and the memories they hold for him.

In addition to the art show, the Bray Continuing Education Clay Classes are also making a return this September. These classes, open to adults of all skill levels and backgrounds, offer a unique opportunity to explore the art of clay sculpting under the guidance of professional artists. With 10-week sessions and open studio time available seven days a week, students can fully immerse themselves in the creative process and develop their skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.

For music lovers, the Wilbur Rehmann Quintet, featuring guest MJ Williams on vocals and trombone, will be performing at various outdoor venues in Helena throughout August. These summer concerts offer a chance to enjoy live jazz music in a relaxed and scenic setting, perfect for a leisurely afternoon or evening out.

And for those interested in theater and dance, there are exciting performances coming up in Helena as well. Bremner Duthie, an international performance artist, will be showcasing his one-man show “Singing Into the Dark, 1933” at the Helena Avenue Theatre in September. This haunting and powerful performance offers a glimpse into the tumultuous era before WWII, highlighting the resilience and creativity of artists in the face of adversity.

Cohesion Dance Project is also gearing up for their annual production of “Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks,” a rock-n-roll rendition of the classic holiday ballet. Auditions for this community-based performance are open to adults and youth of all skill levels and abilities, offering a unique opportunity to be part of a creative and inclusive production.

With so many exciting art, music, theater, and dance events happening in Helena this August, there is something for everyone to enjoy and be inspired by. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or simply looking for a fun and cultural experience, the vibrant arts scene in Helena has something to offer you.
