The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is gearing up to host an exciting and free event for children in the Detroit area. The Detroit Youth Sports Showcase is set to take place on Saturday, August 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cullen Plaza and Milliken State Park along the East Riverfront in downtown Detroit. This event aims to promote physical activity, encourage health and wellness, and introduce kids to a wide variety of outdoor activities offered by organizations from throughout the community.

At the Detroit Youth Sports Showcase, participants will have the opportunity to try out a diverse range of sports and activities with partners from all across the community. More than a dozen interactive stations will be set up throughout Cullen Plaza and Milliken State Park, allowing attendees to experience everything from traditional sports like basketball and football to lesser-known activities like lacrosse and figure skating. Local organizations such as Motor City Cruise, Oakland County Sherriff PAL, Motor City Street Dance Academy, and Wise Guys Chess Club will be on hand to provide engaging and interactive experiences for the kids.

In addition to the sports and activities, the Detroit Youth Sports Showcase will also feature an early childhood, nature-based free play area, group fitness classes, and free rides on the Cullen Family Carousel. Henry Ford Health will be offering free sports physicals for participants, just in time for back-to-school sports. Attendees will receive a bingo card at check-in that can be redeemed for a chance to win prizes, including Detroit Tigers tickets, while supplies last. There will also be other giveaways and information about back-to-school resources available for families.

For those interested in basketball, the Detroit Parks Coalition and Pistons Neighbors Program will be hosting the 3v3 in the D basketball tournament in the parking lot of Cullen Plaza adjacent to the sports showcase on the same day. The tournament will consist of multiple simultaneous games running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with participants eligible for trophies and fun giveaways. The tournament will also feature free throw and three-point contests, as well as a skills workshop. Pre-registration is mandatory for those looking to participate in the tournament.

Cullen Plaza, where the events will be held, is located at 1390 Atwater Street, with Milliken State Park situated just east of the plaza at 1900 Atwater.
