The Arizona Multihousing Charitable Foundation (AMCF) has been making a significant impact in the communities of Phoenix and Tucson by distributing over $200,000 in grants to housing and human services organizations. This initiative is part of the Arizona Multihousing Association’s ongoing effort to address affordable housing and community safety across the state. The grants are aimed at supporting organizations that provide essential services to vulnerable populations, such as individuals experiencing homelessness, seniors, and people with disabilities.

In Phoenix, two organizations, UMOM New Day Centers and the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center (SARRC), were recipients of the grants. UMOM, a nonprofit organization that supports nearly 700 women and children experiencing homelessness, along with 550 units of affordable housing, received $46,870. Jackson Fonder of UMOM expressed gratitude for the industry’s support, stating that it enables UMOM to make a substantial impact in the community. The grant will undoubtedly help UMOM continue its vital work in providing shelter and support to those in need.

SARRC, a leading organization in autism research and community-building, also received a grant of $46,870. The funding will support SARRC’s First Place Transition Academy, which focuses on helping individuals with autism develop independent living and career-readiness skills. Maureen Jorden, SARRC’s chief development officer, emphasized the importance of the grant in building more inclusive communities for individuals with autism across Arizona. This support will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those with autism and their families.

In Tucson, the HSL Center of Opportunity and Interfaith Community Services (ICS) were recipients of grants from AMCF. The HSL Center of Opportunity, established by Humberto Lopez to support health and welfare causes, received $75,250 to continue providing holistic support for the homeless, including shelter, food, and addiction recovery services. Lisa Chastain, the organization’s CEO, expressed gratitude for the grant, stating that it will allow them to continue offering vital programs and services to individuals experiencing homelessness.

ICS, a nonprofit organization in Tucson that supports seniors and people with disabilities, received $29,140 to help individuals remain safe and independent in their homes. Tom McKinney, CEO of ICS, highlighted the significance of the financial gift in supporting people through times of crisis. The grant will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those who rely on ICS for essential services and support.

Since 2005, AMCF has distributed approximately $1.5 million in grants statewide, supported by fundraising events like the Bowl-A-Thon and Annual Fun Run. These grants play a crucial role in supporting organizations that provide essential services to vulnerable populations and contribute to building stronger, more inclusive communities across Arizona. The continued support from AMCF and the Arizona Multihousing Association is essential in addressing the ongoing challenges of affordable housing and community safety in the state.
