Last night, Batesville dominated the girls cross country four-way meet at Greensburg, finishing with a perfect score of 15. The host Pirates came in second with 66 points, followed by North Decatur with 70 and South Decatur with 97. Senior Kaylynn Bedel of Batesville led the way, winning the meet with an impressive time of 21:19. This strong performance by the Bulldogs showcases their talent and determination in the sport.

In the boys meet, Batesville also emerged victorious with 19 points, leaving Greensburg in second place with 42 points. North Decatur followed with 87 points, and South Decatur finished with 111. Senior Jake Chapman of Batesville stood out in the competition, earning the blue ribbon with a time of 17:22. The Bulldogs’ success in both the girls and boys meets demonstrates their depth and skill as a cross country team.

Meanwhile, the Greensburg volleyball team faced a tough challenge at Greenfield-Central, falling in straight sets. Despite the loss, senior Leah West led the Pirates with four aces and 10 kills, while Victoria Stier also contributed with 10 kills. The team’s resilience and effort in the match highlight their determination to compete at a high level.

As high school football season kicks off, exciting matchups are on the horizon. East Central will host Lawrenceburg tonight, with pregame coverage starting at 7:15 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI app. Batesville will also be in action against Triton Central, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on the WRBI app. Additionally, several other games are scheduled around the area, including Greensburg at Shelbyville, Milan at Rushville, Franklin County hosting New Castle, North Decatur visiting South Decatur for the 53rd Bucket Game, and South Dearborn facing Jennings County at home.

In baseball news, the Cincinnati Reds suffered a 7-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Reds starter Nick Lodolo had a strong start, holding the Pirates hitless through the first 3 2/3 innings and recording 10 strikeouts. However, the Pirates broke through with six runs in the 5th inning, leading to Lodolo’s loss. The Reds will look to bounce back in game two of the series, with Andrew Abbott taking the mound against Bailey Falter.

In the NFL preseason finale, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 27-13. Both teams will now focus on finalizing their rosters ahead of the upcoming regular season.
