The University of Mississippi recently celebrated the graduation of over 3,100 students in May 2024. Among these graduates were several locals who achieved remarkable academic success in their respective fields of study. Fred Dunlap III, hailing from Charlotte, earned a Master of Music in music from the graduate school. Adam Grelecki, a resident of Concord, received a Master of Science in sport analytics. McKenna Williams, from Harrisburg, graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from the School of Applied Sciences. Cali Proper, representing Salisbury, obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from the School of Business Administration.
Chancellor Glenn Boyce commended the May 2024 graduates for their outstanding achievements, character, and resilience. He expressed pride in their accomplishments during their time at Ole Miss and expressed excitement for the bright futures that lie ahead for these graduates as they pursue their passions and reach their full potential.
The commencement exercises for the May 2024 graduates took place at the University of Mississippi’s 171st commencement ceremonies, with individual colleges and schools holding their own ceremonies. The university-wide morning convocation was held in the iconic Grove, where Wright Thompson, a senior writer for ESPN, delivered the keynote address. Undergraduate and graduate candidates received degrees from various colleges and schools, including the College of Liberal Arts, General Studies, and schools of Accountancy, Applied Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Journalism and New Media, Law, and Pharmacy.
In addition to the Ole Miss graduates, several other local students were recognized for their academic achievements. Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, announced its dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester, which included students like Josie Thillet from Charlotte, Charlotte Holliway and Hayes Leatherman from Concord, Maggie Faircloth, Annie Heiselm, and Billy Mastrone from Huntersville, Scott McArthur, Darien Pisacano, and Lily Kate Snyder from Matthews, Remington Linker and Aiden Morris from Mooresville, and William Webb IV from Salisbury.
Anya Floge, a graphic design major from Concord, was named to the dean’s list at York College of Pennsylvania for the spring 2024 semester. Similarly, Ria Wipperfurth, an interdisciplinary studies major from Concord, and Sofia Cardona, a theatre and performance major from Mooresville, were recognized on Emerson College’s dean’s list for the same semester.
Moreover, the University of Mississippi announced students named to the spring 2024 Honor Roll lists. Maddie Beaver from Concord, majoring in integrated marketing communications, and Lucy Dunker from Davidson, majoring in dietetics and nutrition, were named to the dean’s honor roll for achieving a semester GPA of 3.50-3.74. To be eligible for honor roll designation, students must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation.
Lastly, Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, recognized Kendall Harris from Concord, a junior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, for earning a place on the president’s list for the spring 2024 semester. Inclusion on the president’s list at Mercer University requires students to meet rigorous GPA standards specific to their college or school within the university.
Overall, the academic achievements of these local students reflect their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence in their respective fields of study. As they embark on their future endeavors, these graduates are poised to make significant contributions to their communities and beyond.
