Share

Beloved ‘90s TV star Danielle Fishel, best known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on the hit show “Boy Meets World,” has recently shared some heartbreaking news with her fans. At the age of 43, Fishel has been diagnosed with DCIS, a form of breast cancer. In a candid revelation on the “Pod Meets World” podcast, which she co-hosts with her former co-stars Will Friedle and Rider Strong, Fishel opened up about her diagnosis and her upcoming treatment.

Fishel bravely shared, “I would like to share something with our listeners. Something that Rider and Will were actually the first people I told the news to. I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer. It is very early. It’s technically stage zero.” Despite the shocking news, Fishel remains optimistic and assured her fans that she will be undergoing surgery to remove the cancer. She also mentioned that she will be on follow-up treatment and has had to make some tough decisions in the past few days.

The actress, who played the iconic character Topanga for all seven seasons of “Boy Meets World” and its sequel series “Girl Meets World,” has been a beloved figure in the hearts of many ‘90s kids. Alongside Friedle and Strong, Fishel hosts the “Pod Meets World” podcast, where they revisit episodes of the popular ABC show and share behind-the-scenes stories.

In a recent interview with E! News, Fishel revealed that she initially planned to keep her diagnosis within her family circle. However, she realized the importance of sharing her experience to raise awareness and encourage others to prioritize their health. Fishel, who is a mother of two with her husband Jensen Karp, emphasized the significance of early detection by sharing her own story. She hopes that by speaking out about her diagnosis, she can inspire others to prioritize their health and get regular check-ups.

“The only reason I caught this cancer when it was still stage zero, is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment,” Fishel shared. “I hope that it will encourage anyone to get in there. If you have to find out that you have cancer, find out at stage zero.”

Despite facing this challenging time, Fishel’s resilience and positivity shine through. Her openness about her diagnosis serves as a reminder of the importance of regular screenings and taking charge of one’s health. As fans and well-wishers rally around her, Fishel’s courage and strength in the face of adversity are truly inspiring. We wish her a speedy recovery and send her all our love and support during this difficult time.
