Delta Air Lines has recently announced that it has started offering free WiFi to its SkyMiles loyalty members on Viasat-equipped flights between Europe and the United States. This new service began with flights from Paris and Nice last month and will be gradually rolled out to additional international flights in the coming months.
In the upcoming weeks, Delta plans to expand this free WiFi service to flights to and from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. By September, more European countries, including Iceland, Ireland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland, will also have access to this complimentary WiFi service. Additionally, Israel will be added to the list in September, although the service there is temporarily suspended until the end of the month.
Looking ahead, Delta aims to introduce free WiFi on flights between the US and South America, including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, in October. This will be followed by flights to Hawaii. By January 2025, Delta plans to extend the free WiFi service to flights to and from Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal, with South Africa and transpacific flights to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand expected to offer the service by mid-to-late 2025.
Delta initially launched free inflight WiFi for its SkyMiles loyalty program members on domestic flights in February 2023. The airline has since expanded this offering, with “free, streaming-quality connectivity available on nearly 700 aircraft,” covering more than 90% of Delta’s domestic fleet.
Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s senior vice president of customer experience design, expressed excitement about the expansion of the free WiFi service, stating, “As we continue to roll out fast, free WiFi and the in-flight experiences it powers, we’re able to serve customers traveling both domestically and internationally in new, in-the-moment ways.” He also highlighted the significant effort put forth by Delta teams to navigate the complex rollout of this service, emphasizing that the scale at which free WiFi is being offered to customers is unmatched in the airline industry.
Overall, Delta’s initiative to provide free WiFi to its SkyMiles loyalty members on international flights represents a significant enhancement to the overall travel experience for its customers. With this service expansion, Delta continues to prioritize customer satisfaction and convenience, setting a new standard for in-flight connectivity in the airline industry.
