Prevention of Sciatic Pain

Preventive measures to be taken sciatic pain related to intervertebral disc injury should take place with a focus on the causes of disc injury and taking steps to avoid those types of injury. Because some disc injuries are triggered by a combination of rotation of the spine while it is in flexion, prevention requires concentrating on correct back mechanics and avoidance of motions that may impose the spine at risk for injury.

  2. Keeping adequate core strength is essential in maintaining a healthy back and preventing a number of or syndromes injuries to the back. Athletes ought to do core stability exercises on their own always.
  3. Avoid a long time sitting or driving. Sitting causes an increase of pressure on our lower back discs. If they are irritated already, it can worsen sciatic nerve pain. The best thing to do is to get up from a seated position every 20-30 minutes and move about. Also don’t always sit on a soft overstuffed chair like a sofa.
  4. Be careful in the early hours of the day. Our lower back is mainly vulnerable in the first hour after waking up. Stressful physical activity during the first hour after rising from bed should be avoided.
  5. Men shouldn’t sit having a wallet in the back pocket as it can lead to strain on the posture of the lower back and pelvis and can cause or worsen sciatica. And for the same reason, women should avoid wearing high heels if they are prone to sciatic nerve pain.
