School of Nursing associate professor Lynn Nichols is set to be inducted as a fellow in the prestigious Academy of Nursing Education in September. This honor is a testament to her outstanding contributions to the field of nursing education and her dedication to excellence. The induction ceremony will take place in San Antonio, Texas, at the annual National League of Nursing Education Summit, where Nichols will join a select group of 27 nurse educators being recognized for their exceptional work.

The Academy of Nursing Education is a formal organization within the National League for Nursing that aims to honor top nursing educators and promote continued excellence in the field. Nichols’ induction into this esteemed group is a reflection of her visionary leadership and significant impact on nursing education.

Currently serving as the director of the school’s Online RN-BS Bachelor’s Completion program, Nichols has played a pivotal role in uniting nurse faculty voices across the country. She is the founder of the National RN-Baccalaureate Faculty Forum, a professional organization that supports over 600 nurse faculty from 330 programs. Nichols’ leadership has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum for RN-BS completion programs nationwide, as evidenced by her contributions to a landmark position paper on bachelor’s education for nurses.

Kelley Connor, interim divisional dean of the School of Nursing, commended Nichols on her well-deserved recognition, stating, “Dr. Nichols has an impressive background that led to this recognition. I am thrilled to congratulate her on her acceptance as a fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education. This prestigious honor reflects her exceptional contributions and dedication to the field of nursing education.”

In addition to her leadership in nursing education, Nichols is also a prolific scholar with several publications on the contemporary relevance of the work of Florence Nightingale. She approaches her role as an educator through the lens of a nurse historian and serves as the director of a nursing museum. One of the museum’s key objectives is to preserve and share historical information to prevent the reinvention of nursing education strategies.
