PGA TOUR reveals new title sponsor for Charlotte tournament

Share

The PGA TOUR has announced a new title sponsor for the tournament formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship, now renamed the Truist Championship. This prestigious event is traditionally held at the Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, but for the 2025 tournament, it will be hosted at The Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course from May 8-11. The tournament will then return to its permanent home at Quail Hollow in 2026. This change is due to Quail Hollow hosting the PGA Championship next year, making it impossible to host both events in the same season.

The announcement of the seven-year sponsorship deal was made at the Truist Innovation & Technology Center in Charlotte, with key figures such as Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers, PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan, Quail Hollow Club President Johnny Harris, and Philadelphia Cricket Club President Tom Sheridan in attendance. This partnership signifies a new chapter for the tournament, bringing together the worlds of golf and finance in a mutually beneficial relationship.

The Truist Championship is one of eight Signature Events on the PGA TOUR schedule, featuring the TOUR’s top players and offering 700 FedExCup points to the winner. Over its history, the tournament has raised more than $30 million for charitable organizations, making a significant impact on the communities it serves. This commitment to giving back aligns with Truist’s values and mission to inspire and build better lives and communities.

Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers expressed his excitement about the sponsorship, stating, “We are honored to be the title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Charlotte-based Signature Event and thrilled that Philadelphia and Charlotte, two vibrant growth markets for Truist, will be featured on the PGA TOUR. We look forward to partnering with the PGA TOUR to elevate this wonderful championship event and Truist’s deep community impact.” This sentiment was echoed by PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan, who welcomed Truist to the PGA TOUR family and highlighted the tournament’s growth and significance over the years.

With the support of Truist as the title sponsor, the Truist Championship is poised to become a best-in-class experience for fans, showcasing top-tier golf talent and providing a platform for community engagement and charitable giving. The partnership between Truist, the PGA TOUR, and the host clubs exemplifies a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and community impact. As the tournament evolves under its new title sponsor, golf enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting and impactful event that celebrates the spirit of competition and philanthropy.
